Service Philosophy
My philosophy of service is embodied in the idea of the synergy of purpose and in this quote by Marian Wright Edelman. “Service is the rent we pay to be living. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.” To me the quote says that we must internalize the idea that service is at the very heart of being human. Service must become a part of our nature and not something added on. Its synergistic affect provides benefits and empowerment to all involved. We all have knowledge and expertise that is needed by others.

In my service, I strive to provide others in education or related fields with my knowledge of instructional technologies and education. In my systems perspective of synergy of purpose, I see service to others as an outlet for my professional knowledge, as well as a way to continually develop and support my teaching and scholarship. I have been active in the service to others in a myriad of contexts. This narrative will outline my activities in the areas of service to the university, service to the community, and service to the profession.
